A new book "Adult Education and Social Justice: International Perspectives" was published just before Xmas 2023 in honour of the adult educator par excellence, Professor Lalage Bown, who died just over two years ago. Edited by Maria Slowey, Heribert Hinzen, Michael Omolewa and myself, it contains contributions from many esteemed adult educators, many from the core CR&DALL team and others beyond, particularly those with connections to Africa.
This event has been rescheduled and will now be held on Monday, 29th January, 1-3pm.
This event is co-hosted with the University of Glasgow's Sustainability Interdisciplinary Research Theme and funded by the EPSRC through the Industrial Decarbonisation Research and Innovation Centre.
The International Council for Adult Education (ICAE) was founded in 1973 after a group of colleagues like Roby Kidd from Canada, Paul Mhaiki from Tanzania, Helmuth Dolff from Germany and Paul Bertelson from UNESCO headquarters had met a year before for CONFINTEA III in Tokyo. They agreed to work towards a global civil society based organisation bringing national and regional associations in adult learning and education together.
Global sustainable development requires actionable evidence for change which can only be produced through collaboration between researchers, practitioners and advocates. This event will promote a discussion on ways through which non-governmental organizations and researchers can work together to improve programmes, public policies and practices. It will provide an opportunity to learn more about cross sector collaboration, potential partnership areas and funding opportunities.
Conventional wisdom seems to say that the growth of cities is beneficial for the happiness and well-being of people who move into and live in them. The underlying assumption, as I understand it, is that larger, growing cities offer greater access to opportunities for employment, career advancement, higher income potential, and a sense of financial security and personal achievement.
