The Open University in Scotland is hosting an open extended seminar on the morning of 25 May 2017:
On 13 October 2016, CR&DALL was very pleased to host an event concerned with the Men's Sheds movement internationally, the programme for which can be found at this link. With some 70+ attendees, there was lively discussion led by speakers from Australia, Ireland and Scotland, and much media coverage, linked to some of which are listed below.

Supporting Adult Education for a Sustainable Life Course: Asian and European perspectives on Education, Work and Citizenship
This Symposium jointly hosted by CR&DALL at the University of Glasgow and the Centre for Learning and Life Chances in Knowledge Economies and Societies (LLakes), UCL Institute of Education, London on behalf of the ASEM LLL Hub has just successfully completed its first day with some 70 delegates from Asia and Europe.
The Universities and Lifelong Learning (UALL) series (edited by Professor Michael Osborne) and published by Manchester University Press (MUP) analyses the external engagement activities of universities and third-level institutions and is concerned with the range of activity that lies beyond the traditional mission of teaching and research.
At the University of Glasgow the MSc in Young People, Social Inclusion and Change (MSc in Youth Studies) programme is recruiting students fast and there are only a few places left for 2015/16. Youth is now a hot topic internationally and this is being reflected in the increase in the numbers of students, both recently graduated and those already working in the field, wanting to pursue their studies and develop their careers in this area of work.

The deadline for Abstracts for the 12th PASCAL conference is 18th May 2015. The conference will be hosted by one of Italy’s leading institutions, the University of Catania, in the beautiful island of Sicily. The theme of the conference concerns how cities and their regions are connected to their universities at strategic frontiers. These include knowledge and political frontiers, and each is linked to global challenges that include employment, migration, health, food security, culture and climate change.
The 2016 monothematic issue of Studia paedagogica will focus on intergenerational learning. Abstracts of between 200 and 400 words should be sent to [email protected] by 15 October 2015. The deadline for full texts is 15 December 2015. Papers will be submitted to a peer review process. This issue will be published in July 2016, edited by Milada Rabušicová and Petr Novotný. CR&DALL Deputy Director Margaret Sutherland will be developing over the next year, one of the University of Glasgow's new courses within the Futurelearn platform.
This hands-on seminar will be delivered by City of Glasgow College Adult Literacy and Community Senior Lecturer, Diane Gardner who will highlight how a synthetic phonics based reading and writing scheme can help native English speaking adults and those from an ESOL background learn to read.
City of Glasgow College are now in partnership with BBC Learning’s Skillswise to further develop phonics as a learning tool by creating suitable and relevant resources to help reduce the number of those who cannot read or write in the UK today.
