We're delighted to announce a new project, funded by the Society for Research in Higher Education and led by CRADALL Director Anna Wilson.
Surveillance imaginaries among Chinese postgraduate students studying in the UK
The project builds on Anna's prior work with Jen Ross of the University of Edinburgh.
Surveillance imaginaries among Chinese postgraduate students studying in the UK is a new project which will run throughout 2025.
Anna and colleagues have previously explored surveillance imaginaries in HE using anonymous participatory speculative fiction (PSF) methods in the Telling Data Stories project. The stories that were contributed to that project revealed a broad range of different ways that people working in HE perceived the enactment and impact of surveillance practices and potentials.
This new project takes this work in a new direction by focusing on the experiences and imaginaries of students; and by exploring the ways in which surveillance imaginaries are dependent on prior experiences and expectations of surveillance.
