Summary biography:
Dr. Yiorgos Alexopoulos is a Researcher at the Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural
Development, Agricultural University of Athens and since June 2014 a Marie Curie Fellow at the
European Research Institute of Cooperative and Social Enterprises (Trento, Italy) working on social
finance solutions, mechanisms and instruments for financing social economy and social enterprises.
He has worked with the OECD as an expert on social finance on a number of projects related to EU
member states’ strategies to support social enterprise development. He is a member of the EMES
international research network on social enterprise.
Since June 2015 he is member of the Commission Expert Group on Social Entrepreneurship (GECES).
He is member of the Think Tank of the European Association of Co-operative Banks (EACB) since
2009, and member of the scientific committee of the 3rd and 4th EACB Award for Young Researchers.
He has been working with the Greek Association of Co-operative Banks since 2001 as an advisor on
institutional and development issues. He is a member of the BoD of the Greek Institute of Cooperation,
head of its Scientific Committee and responsible for its academic and research projects.
He is Assistant Editor of the “International Journal of Co-operative Management”, University of
Leicester and St Mary’s University, Canada, and member of the editorial board of JEOD (Journal of
Economic and Organisational Diversity). He has been member of steering committees of several
national/international conferences on social finance and local development.
